# The idea behind Affiliate.txt

> Affiliate.txt publishes current affiliate program rules on the advertiser's domain.

Affiliate program rules are stored in dashboards, emails and chats. Different participants often work with different versions of the terms. Affiliate.txt puts the current rules on the advertiser's domain in a file people and software can read without registration.

## The problem

The same offer may be described differently across several CPA networks. When an advertiser changes a restriction, networks and publishers learn about it at different times.

Affiliate.txt does not replace platforms. It publishes a core set of rules they can reference.

## Principles

- Open by default.
- Controlled by the source advertiser.
- Facts rather than ratings or blacklists.
- A right to respond to disputed records.
- Minimal public data.
- Interoperability with networks, CRMs and anti-fraud tools.

## Boundaries

Affiliate.txt is not a contract, a court or an affiliate network. It does not accept payments, settle accounts, sell access or determine guilt. It helps people discover official rules and identify their version.

## Contributing

Advertisers can publish test files. Publishers can bring disputed or ambiguous cases. Networks can test imports. Anyone can review copy, propose translations or build an independent validator.
